Cardinal Martini has been buried at the foot of the altar of the Cross of St Charles Borromeo. The ceremony took place in private and was the Church and city of Milan's final farewell to their pastor. Cardinal Dionigi Tettamanzi, Archbishop emeritus, at the end of the funeral mass expressed the sentiments of all: “We loved you, we love you, we now join in your song of praise. Continue to intercede for us all”.
Remembering Cardinal Martini our newspaper dedicates an entire page to him, including the full text of the greeting of Cardinal Tettamanzi and an interview with Bishop Giovanni Giudici of Pavia who recalled the last years of the Cardinal and his stay in Jerusalem. The condolences of the Jewish Community were expressed in the words of Carla Foa and Enzo Gattegna. The page concludes with the homily of Fr Carlo Casalone, provincial of Italy of the Society of Jesus, which was given on 2 September in the Church of Jesus in Rome.
