On the occasion of the Jewish Holy Days of Rosh Ha-Shanah, Yom Kippur and Sukkot, Benedict XVI addressed a Telegram to Dr Riccardo Di Segni, Chief Rabbi of Rome. The following is a translation from the Italian.
On the occasion of Rosh Ha-Shanah 5771, of Yom Kippur and of Sukkot, I am pleased to express my most cordial and sincere good wishes to you and to the entire Jewish Community of Rome, together with the hope that these feasts may bring an abundance of Blessings from the Eternal One and be a source of deep joy. May the will to promote justice and peace, of which the world today stands in such great need, increase in us all.
I remember with sentiments of gratitude and affection my Visit to the “Tempio Maggiore”. May God in his goodness protect the whole Community and grant that we may grow in reciprocal friendship in Rome and throughout the world.
