In Argentina

Lucía Pérez, a student just 16, died due to the horrible internal wounds she received when she was drugged, raped and then impaled with a piece of wood by three men. This terrible crime occurred at Mar del Plata in Argentina. “In my whole career I have never seen anything of this kind”, said the public magistrate María Sánchez. “I am the mother of a girl and I cannot sleep at night because of it”. Every 30 hours a woman is killed by a man in this South American country. One of the effects of this brutal homicide was to unite a coalition of Argentinian women in a unanimous reaction, in the attempt to respond to this wave of violence against women. Thus in offices, schools, shops, law courts and factories women stopped work for one hour on 19 October to say “Enough” to macho violence with a strike launched by the association Ni Una Menos (Not One Woman Less).
