Archbishop Romero will be beatified

· Promulgation of decrees of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints ·

On Tuesday, 3 February, Pope Francis received Cardinal Angelo Amato, SDB, Prefect of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints in a private audience. During the audience the Holy Father authorized the Congregation to promulgate the following decrees:

—the martyrdom of the Servant of God Oscar Arnolfo Romero Galdámez, Archbishop of San Salvador; born on 15 August 1917 in Ciudad Barrios, El Salvador and killed in hatred of the faith on 24 March 1980, in San Salvador;

—the martyrdom of the Servants of God Michele Tomaszek and Sbigneo Strzałkowski, priests of the Order of Friars Minor Conventual, and Alessandro Dordi, diocesan priest, killed in hatred of the faith on 9 and 25 August 1991, in Pariacoto and in Rinconada, near Santa, Peru;

— the heroic virtues of the Servant of God Giovanni Bacile, Archpriest, Dean of Bisacquino; born in Bisacquino, Italy on 12 August 1880 and died there on 20 August 1941.
