Archbishop Bregantini to write the meditations
Archbishop Giancarlo Maria Bregantini of Campobasso-Boiano will be the author of the meditations for the Via Crucis on Good Friday at the Colosseum with Pope Francis.
Msgr Bregantini, who is also chairman of the CEI Commission for issues regarding social welfare, employment, justice and peace, will follow the traditional style of one meditation for each of the 14 stations. Significantly, the news of the assignment was given a few days after the Pope's meeting with the Libera Association (the Freedom Association), which supports families of the victims of mafia violence. Infact, Msgr Bregantini, during his previous episcopate in Locri-Gerace, structured his pastoral formation on the fight against all forms of organized crime. He is also the author of the afterword to the book Dio non si stanca di perdonare [God never tires of forgiving], which includes Lenten meditations from the years 2004 to 2011 given by Archbishop Jorge Mario Bergoglio in Buenos Aires.
