· Interview with the Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples ·
“America is on a mission”. A Church on a journey, self-aware yet at the same time in dialogue with the world -- this is the image that Cardinal Fernando Filoni brings back from Bolivia as he returns from the Fifth American Missionary Congress (CAM 5). Cardinal Filoni attended the Congress as a Special Correspondent for Pope Francis.
The combination of genuine enthusiasm and desire for involvement, as well as the content of the debate which took place over the days of the Congress and the conclusions drawn left a positive impression on the Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, which he warmly shared with the L’Osservatore Romano in this interview. The Cardinal spoke about the growth of local communities as well as how they face a relativistic society, marked by immigration problems, poverty, disregard for the environment and the violation of human dignity. “Following the Congress in Maracaibo in 2013, it was clear that it was necessary to bring greater focus to the vision Pope Francis has of the missionary aspect of the Church. I believe that this aspect manifest itself not only in the enthusiasm and active engagement of so many, but also in the works that were accomplished”.
