A new relation between catechesis and proclamation

· The President of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity on the Motu Proprio 'Fides per doctrinam' ·

Benedict XVI in his Homily for the start of the most recent Synod asserted that the new evangelization must enter into day to day pastoral life so as to give awaken in  every baptized person an awareness of being heralds of the Gospel. For this to happen, we need a serious and systematic formation, one that weds faith to daily life. On in this unity, in fact, does it become possible to account for the faith and its content. At the close of the Synod,  with his characteristic foresight, Benedict XVI announced that the responsibility for catechesis would be transferred from the Congregation for Clergy to the Pontifical Council for Promoting the New Evangelization. The Motu Proprio presented today, Fides per doctrinam, explains the reasons for this decision and the cause for this transfer.
