A celebration of faith and brotherhood

· At the General Audience the Pope recalls the World Youth Day in Rio de Janeiro ·

A great “celebration of faith and brotherhood” is how Pope Francis recalled the spirit of the World Youth Day celebrated in Rio de Janeiro last July. At the General Audience on Wednesday 4 September, in St Peter's Square, the Pope focused his catechesis on the journey to Brazil, asking young people to be a “force of love and mercy that is brave enough to want to transform the world”. In particular the Pope summed up in three words the experience lived in those days at Rio de Janeiro: hospitality, celebration and mission. And he asked the youth to be “a hope for God and “a hope for the Church”, through the commitment to build “brotherhood, sharing and works of mercy to make the world more just and more beautiful, to transform it”. Pope Francis remarked on the beauty of the young people's enthusiasm and gave them an appointment to meet for the next World Youth Day that will take place in Krakow in 2015, in special remembrance of Blessed John Paul II.
